Background

The Network is hosted at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. It is led by Professor John Handmer, Director of RMIT's University's Centre for Community Risk and Safety, and Research Leader of the Global Cities Research Institute’s Human Security Program. John also been appointed as a coordinating lead author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) Special Report Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters to Advance Climate Change Adaptation.
Frank Yardley is the network manager. Dr Joshua Whittacker has been appointed as a Research Fellow.
The members of the Emergency Management Adaptation Research Network come from agencies, universities, government organisations (federal, state and local government), the private sector and community organisations.
The network fosters information exchange and seeks to support and facilitate research to inform the way the emergency management sector responds to climate change. The network is active across the prevention, preparedness, response and recovery range of activities and organisations with consideration of all climatic hazards.
