About the Network

Background

The Emergency Management Network fosters information exchange, liaison amoung participants and seeks to support and facilitate research to inform the way the emergency management sector responds to climate change. The Network is active across the prevention, preparedness, response and recovery range of activities and organisations with consideration of all climatic hazards.

NCCARF and Emergency Management Network

The Networks will work with the NCCARF Facility to advance regional and sectoral knowledge about climate change impacts and vulnerability and adaptation options.

Network Priorities and Goals

Climate change is expected to increase the frequency and intensity of extreme climatic events and natural disasters, including cyclones, storms, drought, heatwaves, bushfires and floods with varying degrees of uncertainty about projections for specific hazards. Emergency management organisations are on society's frontline in preparing for such events, preventing damage, responding to the damage and harm when they occur and managing post event recovery.

Network Organisation

Network membership is open to any individual or organisation with an interest in the field. Currently there are over 300 network members who represent a wide array of researchers, end users and related organisations. There are over 80 different organisations represented.

National Adaptation Research Plan

NCCARF in its role in leading the research community to generate the biophysical, social and economic information needed by decision makers in government and relevant vulnerable sectors and communities to manage the risks of climate change impacts, has developed a series of thematic research plans including the emergency management sector.
